After watching yet another movie, pi, I switched onto SBS at 9.30 just as Samsara wsas starting. This is by far the best movie I have seen all weekend, simply beautiful. Ive just read that it won, deservingly, best film at both the Melbourne and Brisbane International Film Festivals.
Translated from Tibetan it the story of a Monk who, after three years three months and three days of meditation in a cave, returns to his monestary questioning his desires, when since the age of five he has had known no life other than that of a monk. He leaves the monestary and falls in love with the farmers daughter, gets married and has children all with the stunning backdrop of the himalayan mountains. The costumming, directing, soundtrack and the actors were all just soo beautifully melded in together, as Natalie Portman said in Garden State "its really emotional you know". Unfortunately, for me, its the only movie thats not on the xbox.... oh marky...
Pi on the other hand was pretty much action mathematics, not really my thing, I like shiny things and this was black and white so there wasnt much hope from the begining. Clem now thinks im a total nutcase for watching all these intense movies, this fact probably was helped by my screaming as a mouse scampered across the living room.
I think it was a good weekend. The goodness value isnt measured by how smashed I get anymore so Im having to reasses what constitutes as a good weekend, aslong as there's a leedle bit of drinking, alot of sleeping and as little money spent as possible im a happy camper. awsome its monday again
